Introduction to Mimics and SimPlant CMF, 8th and 9th September 2006, Cardiff

Course Information

Mimics software is used to import medical scan data and provide the user with the ability to generate various forms of virtual and physical three-dimensional models. SimPlant CMF utilises the same data and basic functions in order to undertake the planning of various surgical procedures including distraction osteogenesis. The course entitles attendees to 12 CPD points and is recognised by the Institute of Maxillofacial Prosthetists & Technologists. The course is endorsed and sponsored by Materialise.

Synopsis of the course

The aim of our course is to give the learner a good understanding of how Mimics and SimPlant CMF work so that they may be able to undertake their own projects using the software. The course is focused on importing data, preparing data, planning implant position and transferring the data for the production of medical models or implant guides.

Prior Learning

There are no formal entry requirements. The course is aimed specifically at beginners who only have a basic knowledge of the software.

Location

The course will be held at PDR on UWIC's Llandaff Campus in Cardiff.

Fees

The course costs £375 and one night's basic 'college style' accommodation is included in the course fee.

From the east: Junction 29 of the M4, west on A48M, continue until reaching the traffic lights (Tesco on the left), move to the right hand lane. At the next lights turn right into the campus. PDR is the building at the far right of the site.

From the west: Junction 32 of M4, join A470 towards city centre, continue to Gabalfa interchange, take the right lane (but not the flyover) and turn right at the roundabout onto the A48. Go straight on at the first lights (Tesco on the left), move to the right hand lane. At the next lights turn right into the campus. PDR is the building at the far right of the site.

From the north: follow the A470 towards Cardiff until reaching the Gabalfa interchange then follw directions as for from the west.
